Workshop With Profesor Esquilo
We are excited to announce that Professor Esquilo will be visitin Capoeira Luanda Austin this Thursday, Febrauary 2. During his visit, he will be teaching a workshop which we hope everyone will attend.

2011 Holiday Schedule
Another great year of training has come to an end. Thanks everyone for all of your hard work and dedication. This year has brought a lot of exciting changes for the group, including the introduction of Instructor Tataruga as our new teacher! We look forward to what the new year will bring.
Our regular classes are canceled for the holidays from 12/22/11 until 1/31/12. However, please join us for our end of the year roda on 12/29/11 at the Pan American Recreating Center.
Our regularly scheduled classes will resume on 1/3/12. We look forward to seeing you soon!

2011 Batizado and Workshops
Fall is in the air, and it is that time again, folks — the Capoeira Luanda San Antonio Annual Batizado!
The batizado is a baptism for capoeristas who have dedicated their time, effort, and energy through the year and it is a celebration in the spirit of this dedication and the love of our community.
This year, we are please to co-host with our sister group in San Antonio as our very own Mestre Jelon will be here, in Austin, as a part of our Batizado event. This Friday, at Ballet Austin, Mestre Jelon will be teaching a workshop from 7pm till 10pm. Please join us for this very special class.
We are also excited to have Professor Esquilo for workshops through this week.

Workshop and BBQ
Today’s (Saturday) class will be canceled. Instead, we will participate in a workshop with Capoeira Luanda’s own Professor Esquilo Preto here in Austin. Professor Esquilo has well over 16 years of experience in the art and is Instructor Tartaruga’s instructor! Come out and meet him and show your support.

The cost of the workshop is $25. However, if you are current for the month of September, we will cover $15 of the workshop cost. Following the workshop, there will be a batizado for Evolucao’s kids at 5:30PM.
Afterward, we will have a BBQ at Bailarina’s place at 7pm. It’s a potluck, so please bring food for the grill, a side, beverages or whatever you’d like to contribute. Call for more details.

This week is turning out to be an embarrassment of riches for capoeira in Central Texas. Here are some events arranged by date:
Thursday 6/23:
First, of course as we have been mentioning, Professor Esquilo (Capoeira Luanda Miami) will be in Texas tomorrow through Saturday. Class is canceled tomorrow (6/23) so that we can attend his workshop in San Antonio. The workshop is $25 and starts at 7pm. Saturday 6/25:
Professor Esquilo will be in Austin to teach a workshop at our studio. We will begin at 1pm at our normal studio. If you have paid for class for the month of June, we will be covering your workshop fee on Saturday. If not, the cost is $25. Therefore if you’ve been around this month, we’d better see you there! Workshop with Mestre Demetrius
This Saturday, we will be co-hosting (with Capoeira Evolucao) a workshop taught by Mestre Demetrius of Capoeira Aruande (Houston).
The event will be at our studio at 1-3pm, with a roda likely to follow. The cost will be $20. Please note the start time is 1pm. Please be on time!

Workshop and Street Roda
We will be ending our first month with Instructor Gaviao with a special workshop and street roda this Saturday, 1/29. The workshop will be held at our studio at the Pan Am Recreation Center from 1-4pm. Then, weather permitting, we will head out for a street roda. The cost of the workshop is $15. Visitors and guests are more than welcome to attend. Austin Capoeira Luanda students who attend the workshop will receive discounted monthly tuition rates in February.

Class in the Park with Instructor Gaviao
We will be having class today (11/13) in the park at Disch Field from 2-4pm with Instructor Gaviao. The park is located near Auditorium Shores and the Long Center (between Barton Springs Road and Riverside Dr). Let’s try to meet up near the big climbing hill. Do not confuse this park with the UT Baseball facility. Here is a map of the location.
You should definitely bring water with you and probably sneakers just in case we have a street roda somewhere. I hope some of you took the opportunity to train with Instructor Gaviao at his recent workshops. For those of you who have yet to meet him, I can assure you it will be a great class. There will be some great capoeira to learn and some exciting news to share so make sure to be there!

Troca de Corda
We will be participating in the Troca de Corda ceremony to be held in San Antonio 8/19/10 – 8/21/10. Regularly scheduled classes will be canceled on Thursday and Saturday for the event. Students who are not attending the San Antonio workshops with Professor Esquilo are encouraged to attend Instructor Gaviao’s workshop in Austin today (8/19) at Capoeira Evolucao’s studio @ 6:45pm ($20).
